San Jose, Calif. - Strong distance and fly swims along with the continued dominance of Aggie divers led UC Davis to a 150-150 tie against host San Jose State on Friday afternoon.
UC Davis took eight event wins over the Spartans and went 1-2 in four of those.
Olivia Smith took the 1000 Free in 10:34 with Kathryn Bockman close behind in second in a season-best 10:35. Smith went on to win the 500 Free as well in 5:06.68.
The Aggies took the top two spots again in the 200 Fly with Amanda Wilson taking the win in 2:06.32 and Ashleen O'Brien swimming 2:09.56 for second. Mia Cunnan won the 200 Back in 1:06.48, teaming with Olivia Greenberg's third place finish in that event to mitigate three San Jose State swimmers in the top-five of the 200 Back.
UC Davis received more valuable points in the 100 Fly where Jay Jay Eaton won in 56.77 and Ashley Ma came in second. With Ashleen O'Brien's third place finish in that event, the Aggies scored 14 points in the 100 Fly alone.
As has been the case all season for the Aggies in head-to-head duals, UC Davis divers proved capable of shouldering chunks of points.
Led by Taylor Hornberger's 257.25, London Christensen, Sydney Wren and Kendall Menard combined to go 1-4 on the 1-meter board. That group was similarly dominant on the 3-meter board with Hornberger winning again with 289.88, Christensen taking third and Wren securing more points in fourth.
Despite the Aggies putting up more individual event wins (8-6) and a swimming season-best time in the 200 Medley Relay (1:40.00), San Jose State found their margin of victory in the relays, winning both the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.
With Friday serving as the first official meet of the Winter Quarter and first dual meet of the season, the Aggies will return to Davis to take on Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe UC Santa Barbara at Schaal Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The meet start time for Saturday is scheduled for 11 a.m.
