Cortney Cunningham posted career highs on both vault and floor exercise while junior co-captain
Kelley Hebert nabbed a share of first place on floor, highlighting UC Davis action at its own NorCal Classic women's gymnastics meet Sunday afternoon. The Aggies placed fourth in the five-team meet with a team total of 193.550.
California won the meet with a 194.950, edging archrival Stanford's 194.700. San Jose State finished third at 193.850 to lead the trio of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation teams in the meet. Sacramento State took fifth at 189.675.
Cunningham posted a 9.850 on vault, then followed with a 9.700 on uneven bars before delivering a 9.725 on floor. Hebert hit a 9.825 on floor to match Cal's Kyana George for that event title. Freshman
Logan Clagg wrapped up her collegiate debut with a 9.800 on floor, good for a piece of third place.
Cunningham was one of two Aggies to set or tie personal bests on vault: junior
Alyssa Ito matched her previous high with a 9.775 in the No. 4 slot. Adding a 9.775 from senior
Cammi Johnson in the anchor position, UC Davis opened the meet with a 48.650.
Johnson followed with a career-best 9.825 on beam two events later, leading the Aggies to a 48.700 team total. Hebert added a 9.775 while Ito and freshman
Rachel Schuelke each chipped in 9.750 scores. UC Davis also compiled a 47.775 on bars, with junior
Gabby Landess (9.725) and Cunningham (9.700) leading the way; then totaled 48.425 on floor, with Hebert and Clagg on top.
Cal's George won the individual all-around at 39.425 while her teammate Nevaeh DeSouza and Stanford's Chloe Widner tied for second with 39.075 scores. UC Davis did not field an all-arounder in the meet.
The Aggies enter a short week of practice before hitting the road for a dual at Arizona State on Friday. Meet time is 6 p.m. Pacific.
