HILLSBORO, Ore. – Junior defender
Ana Williams and junior midfielder
Janessa Staab each scored their first goal as an Aggie during Friday's non-conference game at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon, UC Davis recorded nearly three times as many shots as Portland State by finishing with a 23-8 margin, and junior goalkeeper
Nicki Rucki earned her first win as an Aggie when her team started its weekend in Oregon with a 2-0 victory against the Vikings.
UC Davis improved its overall record to 3-1 with this result; PSU will continue its season with a 0-4 mark.
Women's soccer out-shot the Vikings, 11-4, in the first half, with one of those attempts originating from Williams' foot in the 40th minute. Sophomore forward
Casey Palmer set up her teammate on that play, which ultimately became the game-winning goal.
Three of Williams' five shots were on goal; both figures were team highs.
The Aggies' 1-0 lead remained untouched, and unthreatened for the rest of the day, but doubled in the 79th minute when a blast from Staab, on an Aggie free kick from 25 yards out, beat Viking netminder Enya Hernandez.
While Hernandez was tested from the start of the match through the final whistle, Rucki and her backline prevented Portland State from generating a dangerous scoring opportunity all afternoon.
Rucki needed to make only one save in the Aggies' second shutout victory of the season.
Women's soccer will end its Oregon road trip in Corvallis with Sunday's 1 p.m. match, a live stats link for this game is available on UCDavisAggies.com.
