SAN FRANCISCO – The final game before the start of league play was a wild one for UC Davis since four of the five goals scored in Sunday's game at San Francisco were recorded throughout the first half. Of those four goals, a combined three found the back of the net within a 91-second timespan.
With the Aggies trailing 1-0,
Janae Gonzalez set up
Olivia Jones' first goal of the season, which tied the game at one apiece in the 41st minute, until San Francisco regained its lead 52 seconds later.
Unfazed by that sudden event, Gonzalez tied the score at 2-2 in the 43rd minute, which gave momentum to the Aggies heading into halftime.
Gonzalez' goal is the second scored within the last three games since she was responsible for the game-winner at Nevada. By collecting her second career assist in Sunday's matchup, the senior communication major posted the first three-point game as an Aggie.
That score remained untouched until the 62nd minute, when the host Dons netted the game-winner, which lifted them to a 3-2 win.
UC Davis will now head to Cal State Fullerton for its league opener on Oct. 3, and arrive to Orange County with a 5-5 record. San Francisco will open its conference schedule with a 7-3-1 mark.
Six of the Aggies' 10 shots took place after the Dons scored their third goal; from that point of the match, until the final whistle, action predominantly took place in San Francisco's third of the field since the Dons only mustered one shot throughout the final 15-plus minutes of action.
AGGIE EVO
Established during the 2017-18 academic year, the Aggie EVO System is UC Davis Athletics' investment in the primary mission of preparing student-athletes for a successful "launch" after graduation.
Thanks to a collaboration of alumni, university resources, corporate partners, coaches and Student-Athlete Outcomes staff, all Aggies are guided over four years to acquire the skills, knowledge, opportunities and tools to better know and navigate the "World of Work" after graduating from UC Davis.
