FULLERTON, Calif. – UC Davis and Cal State Fullerton each finished with nine shots in Thursday's Big West opener at Titan Stadium, and junior midfielder Courtney Van Winkle earned two of her team's three shots on goal, but three first half goals from CSF ultimately led to a 4-0 result in favor of the host Titans.

UC Davis will end its Southern California swing on Sunday at UC Irvine, and will head to Anteater Stadium for its 1 p.m. match with a 5-6 overall and 0-1 league record. The Titans will continue their season at 8-2-1 and 1-0.

The last of Van Winkle's shots on goal took place early in the second half, and needed a solid effort from Cal State Fullerton's goalkeeper to prevent the Aggies from chipping away at its halftime lead, with plenty of soccer still left to play at that point of the match.

Junior midfielder Monet Kunz led all Aggies with three attempts, including one on frame.

UC Davis will seek a split of its inaugural pair of league matches when it heads to Anteater Stadium for Sunday's match; a victory will give the Aggies their third head-to-head road win in as many trips to Irvine.

MARYA WELCH INITIATIVE
Named after the former physical education instructor, coach and Dean of Women who founded women's sports on the campus 25 years before the passage of Title IX, the Marya Welch Initiative for Women's Athletics provides comprehensive support for UC Davis' 16 athletics programs.

Through the support of the Marya Welch Initiative and its group members, student-athletes are provided the best possible opportunity to succeed inside the classroom, and in competition, through special project gifts and by increasing visibility and participation at women's events throughout the year.
