KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A thrilling battle between UC Davis and Tennessee, a team ranked as high as No. 10 in the national polls this season, took place Wednesday evening at Regal Soccer Stadium. Even after the Volunteers scored in the 74th minute, the Aggies nearly tied the game at one apiece on two occasions when shots from Leslie Fregoso and Alexa Aguirre were turned away at the last possible moment.

Even though it was tested multiple times from the time it scored the only goal of the evening, until the final horn, Tennessee held on to that lead and escaped with a 1-0 result, which improved its record to 6-1-1 this season.

UC Davis will return home with a 4-3 record, and will face Nevada in its next road game, which will take place Saturday night at 6 p.m.

Mahlah Catline posted three of her team's eight shots, and ended the evening as the final member of the Aggies' trio that recorded an attempt on goal.

Against elite competition, goalkeeper Nicki Rucki came up clutch on numerous occasions, and finished with a career-high six saves. When UC Davis arrived to Knoxville, the junior 'keeper stopped eight shots throughout her previous four appearances, and nearly doubled that total in one match.

UC Davis soccer fans who are unable to make the drive to Reno can follow the action from Mackay Stadium through a free video stream or live stats. Both links are available at UCDavisAggies.com.
