NOTES
UC DAVIS-NEVADA SERIES

  • UC Davis leads the all-time series, 7-4.
  • UC Davis was a 1-0 winner the last time the teams played in 2019 at Nevada, snapping a three-game losing skid to the Wolf Pack (2014, '15, '18).
  • The Aggies have won four of the five games played in Reno with victories in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2019. The only Nevada win in Reno was a 1-0 victory over the Aggies in 2014.
  • UC Davis holds the longest win streak in the series, taking four in a row by winning back-to-back in 2008 and 2009 then again in 2011 and 2012.

2026 SEASON

  • WIN TOTAL DOUBLED: UC Davis has won six matches to double its win total of three in 2025.
  • FIFTH PLACE WITHIN REACH: UC Davis currently sits in seventh place in the Mountain West but is only three points behind the current fifth-place team Wyoming. A UC Davis win combined with a Wyoming home loss to Hawaii on Saturday would leave both teams at 5-4-1 in conference play in a tie for fifth place and the Aggies defeated the Cowgirls by a score of 3-2 on Oct. 2 in Davis.
  • SENIORS: UC Davis honored nine seniors (M Savannah Cordero, F McKayla Farrell, D Sydnie Fong, M Ashleigh Garcia, M Charlotte Henness, D Livi Lewis, GK Cat Pieper, M Karla Sandoval, M Viet-Thy Tran) before their final home game last Sunday against UTEP. The same group will be in their final game overall at Nevada.
  • SUNDAY SPECIAL: UC Davis played home matches on six Sundays during the regular-season against Sacramento State (Aug. 16), UC Santa Barbara (Aug. 30), Pacific (Sept. 6), Idaho (Sept. 20), Hawai'i (Oct. 18) and UTEP (Nov. 1).
  • HOME SUCCESS: UC Davis finished its nine-game home schedule with a 5-3-1 overall record and was 4-1-0 in Mountain West action played at Aggie Soccer Field. The Aggies put together three straight home victories against Wyoming, Grand Canyon and UNLV from Oct. 2-15 with the three-match home win streak the Aggies' longest since also winning three in a row on their own pitch Sept. 12-26, 2024 (Utah Valley, LSU, Cal State Fullerton).
  • ON THE ROAD: In contrast to their success at home, the Aggies have managed just a 1-6-2 on the road this season. The Aggies have not won in their last eight road matches (0-6-2) since starting the campaign with a 2-0 road win at Fresno State but did have a 1-1 tie at San Jose State in their most recent outing to score a point on the road for the first time since a scoreless tie at Loyola Marymount on Sept. 10 and end a string of four consecutive road losses.
  • OFFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT: UC Davis has scored 18 goals this season after picking up a Big West-low 11 in 2025. After scoring only four goals in its first nine matches, the Aggies have tallied 14 over their last nine and at least one in eight of those nine, including at least one in six consecutive matches from Sept. 24 - Oct. 15 until being blanked by Hawaii on Oct. 18. The goals in six straight matches marked the first time the Aggies had accomplished that long of a streak since scoring in nine straight matches spanning the final six of 2024 and the first three of 2025.
  • HERNDON'S SPECTACULAR MOUNTAIN WEST SEASON: Mountain West Player and Freshman of the Year candidate M Kaya Herndon has led the Aggies' offensive improvement by scoring all 14 of her points over the last nine matches. Herndon leads the Mountain West in goals (6) and game-winning goals (3) during conference play, while her 14 points are tied for third. Herndon exploded for seven points in back-to-back home wins over Wyoming and Grand Canyon with a goal and an assist against Wyoming and her first collegiate brace five days later against Grand Canyon. Herndon also had a goal in the Mountain West opener at Air Force, another against UNLV and most recently a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over UTEP. On the season, Herndon leads the Aggies with six goals, three game-winning goals, 14 points and 11 shots on goal, while tying for the team lead with 12 shots on goal and two assists, and ranking second with 25 shots.
  • OTHER OFFENSIVE LEADERS: F Ashley Brewer, F Lakelee Perkins and D Courtney Wagner are tied with Herndon for the team lead with two assists each, as well as tied for second behind Herndon with six points each (2 goals, 2 assists). Perkins also has a team-high 28 shots and is tied for the team lead with M Kaya Herndon with 12 shots on goal.
  • DEFENSIVE SUCCESS: UC Davis ranks sixth in the Mountain West in goals allowed per game and goals against average (1.28), as well as tied for sixth in shutouts with five and shutouts per game (0.28).
  • PENALTY KICKS: UC Davis has made all three of its penalty kicks this season. The Aggies had tried just one all season until D Courtney Wagner and M Kaya Herndon both made PK's in last Sunday's win over UTEP.
  • THREE DIFFERENT GOALKEEPERS HAVE SOLO SHUTOUTS: Three different goalkeepers have combined for the Aggies' five solo shutouts. Cat Pieper has been credited with three most recently in a 1-0 victory over UNLV on Oct. 15 against UNLV, as well as in a 3-0 win against Grand Canyon on Oct. 7 when she also had seven saves and in a scoreless tie at LMU in her first action of the season on Sept. 10. After the LMU contest, Pieper did not play in the next four matches until relieving Piper Wilkison when Wilkinson was injured in the second minute of the Oct. 2 win over Wyoming, marking the only time in 2026 that UC Davis' starting goalkeeper has not played the full match. Wilkison's shutout came in a 1-0 home win over Pacific on Sept. 6 in her third start, while Dena Frenkel recorded her shutout in a season-opening 2-0 win at Fresno State. Pieper and Wilkison have each started a team-high-tying seven matches with Pieper starting each of the last six, Frankel has started four including the first three but has played only once since. Pieper has a team-best 1.00 GAA, allowing eight goals in eight matches played with team highs of 34 saves, 99 shots faced and 718:51 minutes. Wilkison and Frenkel both have a 1.50 GAA with Wilkison allowing nine goals and recording 16 saves in 541:09 minutes while Frenkel has given up six goals and has 15 saves in 360:00 minutes.
  • LOTS OF PLAYERS SEEING ACTION AND MAKING STARTS: UC Davis has played 27 of the 28 players on its roster in at least one match over the first 18 contests, while 19 different players have started with each of the 19 making at least four starts. Four players (D Kiley Fehrenbacher, D Sydnie Fong, F Lakelee Perkins and D Courtney Wagner) have started all 18 contests, while nine (M Sydney Bushman, F Jaycee DeFazio, Fehrenbacher, Fong, F Lisette Gregoris, M Payton Henry, F Presley Henry, Perkins, Wagner) have played in all 18.
  • ROSTER MAKEUP AND NEWCOMERS IMPACT: The 28-player roster is a nearly equal mix of returnees (15) and first-year newcomers (13), including six first-year transfers in F Ashley Brewer (Cal Poly), F Jaycee DeFazio (Cal Poly), D Sydnie Fong (San Diego/Nevada), GK Dina Frenkel (Purdue), D Stella Villalta (Santa Clara) and GK Piper Wilkison (Butler). UC Davis has had 12 first-year newcomers see action with the six first-year transfers joined by six true freshmen in M Payton Henry, F Presley Henry, F Bella Fernandez, M Kaya Herndon, F Chloe Keating and D Samantha Murdin. The 12 first-year newcomers have played in a combined 146 matches and made 84 starts.
  • HERNDON AND FEHRENBACHER MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: M Kaya Herndon and F Kiley Fehrenbacher have combined for four Mountain West Player of the Week honors most recently when Herndon was named the league's Offensive and Freshman Player of the Week on Nov. 2 after her performance the previous day against UTEP when she had the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 85th minute and also an assist on Ashley Brewer's previous game-tying goal. Herndon was also selected as the conference's Freshman of the Week on October 5 for her performance in a 3-2 home win over Wyoming five days earlier when she scored the first goal of the match then later assisted on Jaycee DeFazio's game-winner in the 86th minute. Fehrenbacher was the first UC Davis player to earn a weekly award from the conference when she was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 for her performance in a scoreless tie at LMU four days earlier. Fehrenbacher was one of five UC Davis players, along with GK Cat Pieper and fellow defenders Sydnie Fong, Ava Peterson and Courtney Wagner, to play all 90 minutes in the contest.
  • FEHRENBACHER STREAK: D Kiley Fehrenbacher has started all 37 UC Davis matches played in 2025 (19) and 2026 (18) since transferring from Oregon prior to the 2025 campaign. Fehrenbacher has played in a team-high 1601 of 1620 possible minutes with the only match she hasn't gone the distance a 71-minute outing at Saint Mary's.
  • HISTORIC MOUNTAIN WEST WIN: UC Davis made school history Oct. 2 when the Aggies defeated Wyoming, 3-2, for the program's first-ever Mountain West win in the first home conference match as a member of the league in any sport.
  • SEASON CAPTAINS: UC Davis' season captains are M Savannah Cordero, M Ashleigh Garcia and D Livi Lewis.
  • PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Three Aggies - F Ashley Brewer, M Savannah Cordero and D Courtney Wagner - were named to the preseason Mountain West women's soccer watch list.

She has also been an assistant coach at Virginia (1999), UCLA (2000-04) and Texas (2010-11). In addition, Mertz has held various roles with the U.S. Women's National Team and Olympic Development Program.

Despite getting off another 10 shots, including three more on goal, the Aggies could not add the game-winner. Both teams had shots go off the top of the crossbar in the second half from Aggies' M Kaya Herndon in the 60th minute and the Gauchos' Isabella Ong with just 53 ticks remaining. All three players started their collegiate careers at Cal Poly before transferring to UC Davis. Both teams put up their share of shots with UC Davis outshooting Pacific, 12-9, but there were not many other scoring chances for either team although each side did have one shot off the top post early in the contest with Pacific's Janelli Villagran in the ninth minute followed by UC Davis F Lakelee Perkins in the 14th. UC Davis looked to score in the 18th minute but an apparent goal by F Lakelee Perkins was overturned after video review due to an offside penalty. MATCH 8 - AT PORTLAND 2, UC DAVIS 0 - SEPTEMBER 17, 2026
UC Davis saw its unbeaten streak come to an end at three with a 2-0 loss to Portland in a nonconference road match at Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex. The Pilots went on top just 5:28 into the match on a goal from Tayvi Khann with Journey Middleborn and Hailey Bagby picking up assists. Portland added to its lead and created the final score early in the second half when Ruby Settle was fouled in the box and converted a penalty kick with the clock reading 51:44. The Pilots had only one shot on goal by Abriana Ruiz outside their tallies as both teams put three shots on the goalkeeper. F Chloe Keating had two of UC Davis' three shots on goal, while F Presley Henry registered one. Both goalkeepers played all 90 minutes with Sophia Hills registering three saves for the Pilots and GK Piper Wilkison one for the Aggies.

MATCH 9 - IDAHO 2, AT UC DAVIS 0 - SEPTEMBER 20, 2026
UC Davis dropped a 2-0 decision to Idaho in its final nonconference match of the 2026 regular season. The match was scoreless until the 34th minute when Payton Oelkers beat Aggie GK Dina Frenkel to a bouncing ball then lofted a shot over her and watched it roll into the net. The Vandals took their 1-0 lead into halftime then put an extra goal on the board in the second minute of the second half when Kalina Barbosa struck unassisted from long distance at the 46:17 mark. Idaho would outshoot the Aggies the rest of the way 8-3 and never saw its lead seriously threatened while closing out the victory. The Vandals finished with advantages in shots (13-5), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (4-0). The physical and intense match featured 24 fouls (Idaho 14, UC Davis 10) and three yellow cards (Idaho 2, UC Davis 1). Tori Peters drew one after Oelkers goal and Kahvavli Miller picked up another from the bench in the 89th minute for the Vandals. M Kaya Herndon had one in the 83rd minute for the Aggies. GK Dena Frenkel was in net for the first time since August 20 for the Aggies and had two saves in a 90-minute full match effort.

MATCH 10 - AT AIR FORCE 3, UC DAVIS 1 - SEPTEMBER 24, 2026
UC Davis made history by playing in its first Mountain West Conference competition in any sport but was defeated 3-1 at Air Force in the league opener for both teams at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Aggies got on the scoreboard first when M Kaya Herndon notched her first career goal unassisted on a free kick from just above the top of the penalty box in the 14th minute of the match. UC Davis held onto its 1-0 lead throughout most of the first half until Jordan Dillingham headed in a corner kick from Annika Jost in the 35th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. The teams remained tied 1-1 until two early second-half goals by the Falcons provided for the winning margin. Clara Teigland put Air Force ahead for the first time with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute before Lauren Steinlage provided an insurance tally in the 54th on an assist from Addie Doyle.

MATCH 11 - AT COLORADO COLLEGE 2, UC DAVIS 1 - SEPTEMBER 27, 2026
UC Davis briefly tied the match on M Karla Sandoval's first career goal in the 86th minute but Bella Stewart answered in the 88th on assists from Charlotte Strabel and Nadai Cassamajor to break the tie and lift Colorado College to a 2-1 victory over the Aggies in a Mountain West match at Stewart Field. The teams played nearly 60 minutes of scoreless soccer before D Ava Peterson was called for the Aggies' first red card of the 2026 season at the 59:23 mark while trying to stop Stewart from getting by her for a clear look at the goal. Stewart took a free kick just above the penalty box and six seconds later the Tigers had a 1-0 lead on a Strabel goal assisted by Stewart and Bella Mayne at 59:29. Despite being outshot, 4-0, over the next 30 minutes while playing a player down for the rest of the contest due to the red card, UC Davis was able to keep the Tigers' lead to a single goal and set up Sandoval's equalizer at the 85:24 mark on a sequence that started on a D Courtney Wagner corner kick and included an assist for M Charlotte Henness. The match looked to be headed for a tie until Strabel placed a nearly perfect ball in front of the left half of the goal and when UC Davis GK Piper Wilkison moved forward to try to cut it off Stewart snuck in front of her and headed it into the net.

MATCH 12 - AT UC DAVIS 3, WYOMING 2 - OCTOBER 2, 2026
UC Davis made history when the Aggies won their first Mountain West match while playing their first-ever conference game at home as a member of the league with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Wyoming. F Jaycee DeFazio scored the game-winner in the 86th minute on an assist from Kaya Herndon. The Aggies came out on fire by scoring the first two goals of the match in under 12 minutes to take a 2-0 lead against a Cowgirls' team that entered the contest with a six-match win streak that was tied for the third-longest active win streak in college soccer. Herndon struck first in the fifth minute by scoring the second goal of her career on F Lakelee Perkins' first career assist. D Courtney Wagner followed by converting a penalty kick in the 12th minute for her first career goal after teammate F Ashley Brewer was fouled in the box by Wyoming goalkeeper Haley Bartel. The Cowgirls got one goal back in the 20th minute when Alyssa Glover put the ball into the back of the net on an assist from Kiley Ballek. The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Aggies until the 83rd minute when Wyoming's Maddie Burr headed in a rebounded free kick from Glover to tie the contest at 2-2. The Cowgirls would outshoot the Aggies, 6-1, the rest of the way but DeFazio's game-winner was the only one to find the back of the net. GK Cat Peiper recorded six saves that were one short of her career high after coming into the match in the second minute after starter Piper Wilkison left with an injury following a collision in the box with teammate D Kiley Fehrenbacher.

MATCH 13 - AT UC DAVIS 3, GRAND CANYON 0 - OCTOBER 7, 2026
UC Davis continued its winning ways by blanking Grand Canyon for its' second straight victory at Aggie Soccer Field. F Ashley Brewer set up Herndon for his first goal at 13:13 to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. Perkins extended the UC Davis lead to 2-0 at 45:39 on an assist from F Lisette Gregoris. Herndon finished the scoring by netting her second strike of the match at 67:25 on an assist from F Chloe Keating. Brewer, Gregoris and Keating each logged their first collegiate assists against the Lopes. The Lobos scored the game-winner in the 90th minute when Presley Devey converted a penalty kick at the 89:31 mark after being fouled in the penalty box. New Mexico had scored the equalizer eight minutes earlier when Sherry Diep headed in Celina Frenz' cross at 80:31. Devey was credited with an assist along with Frenz on Diep's goal. D Kiley Fehrenbacher was credited with her first assist of the season on F Lisette Gregoris' goal after putting the ball in front of the net near both Gregoris and Kaya Herndon on the play. GK Cat Pieper recorded four of her five saves between Gregoris' go-ahead goal and Diep's equalizer, including a leaping tap away of Kylee Mackey's shot near the top crossbar in the 60th minute.

MATCH 15 - AT UC DAVIS 1, UNLV 0 - OCTOBER 15, 2026
UC Davis picked up strong contributions from all phases of the team in a 1-0 win over UNLV in a Mountain West match at Aggie Soccer Field. M Kaya Herndon stayed red hot with the lone goal of the match in just the fourth minute on an assist from Lakelee Perkins and then the Aggies' defense took over. GK Cat Pieper needed only one save to record the solo shutout but it was a beauty that preserved the victory on a breakaway point-blank range shot by the Rebels' Sierah McCallum. UC Davis held a 14-10 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 margin in shots on goal. The Aggies turned away 10 UNLV corner kicks with none of them reaching Pieper.

MATCH 16 - HAWAII 1, AT UC DAVIS 0 - OCTOBER 18, 2026
UC Davis had two apparent goals reviewed and disallowed in a 1-0 home loss to Hawai'i. The Aggies had three notable potential goals in the match, including an apparent score by Payton Henry on a D Courtney Wagner corner kick in the 12th minute that was called back due to a foul on Kaya Herndon in the penalty fox, a handball on M Sydney Bushman just before she put the ball into the back of the net in THE 72nd minute and the challenge for a possible foul against Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper Kennedy Justin on M Karla Sandoval's attempt to head in a goal in the penalty box in the 90th. All three plays were reviewed and ruled in favor of Hawai'i. Pieper registered a career-high eight saves to keep the Aggies in a game in which the Rainbow Wahine held advantages of 16-10 in shots and 10-7 in shots on goal. Justin had seven saves for Hawaii.
