Aggie bats fall silent in series opener at Utah

The Aggies are set to close out the 2019 season tomorrow (May 25) at Smith's Ballpark beginning at 10:30 a.m. PT/11:30 a.m. MT.

SALT LAKE CITY -- UC Davis had a tough time offensively, managing only five hits and getting shut out in their 8-0 loss to Utah on May 24.

Senior Blake Hannah took the loss for UC Davis, which dropped his record to 3-5. Freshman David Watson earned the win for Utah, improving to 2-0 on the season. The Aggies defeat puts their 2019 record at 19-30. With the victory, Utah improves to 15-33 this year.

Hannah made the start for UC Davis. The southpaw went 6.1 innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. The Aggies then went to the bullpen, relieving Hannah with junior Chase Lyford, who threw 0.2 innings, giving up one run and two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Junior Wyatt Tucker finished the game for UC Davis, securing the contest's final three outs while allowing one run on two hits.

All together, UC Davis pitchers gave up the eight Utah runs, seven earned, on 13 hits, walking one and fanning five.

Junior Alejandro Lara led the way offensively, going 2-for-3. Utah's lineup was led by senior Erick Migueles, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs on the day.

All told, UC Davis left opportunities on the board, stranding five throughout the game.
