Aggies conclude 2019 at Utah

SALT LAKE CITY -- Junior Cooper Morrison went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, but it wasn't enough as UC Davis fell 5-1 to Utah on Saturday, May 25.

Senior Chris Brown took the loss for UC Davis, which dropped his record to 3-6. Freshman Dustyn Schramm picked up the win for Utah, improving to 2-4 on the season. The Aggies defeat puts their 2019 record at 19-31. With the victory, Utah improves to 16-33 this year.

UC Davis gave the ball to Brown to start out the contest. He threw four innings, surrendering four runs, all of them earned, on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout. The Aggies then went to the bullpen, bringing in sophomore Brett Erwin for the following 1.2 innings. Erwin allowed one run on three hits before being relieved by sophomore Tim Wieser. Wieser didn't yield a run in 1.1 innings of work, giving up zero Utah hits while walking one and fanning one. To finish out the game, UC Davis turned to junior Steve Ouellette, who secured the contest's final three outs, allowing no runs and one hit, walking none, and punching out one.

UC Davis pitchers collectively allowed the five Utah runs, all earned, on 13 hits, walking two and fanning three.

At the plate, UC Davis was paced by Morrison, who went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Spencer Gedestad furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Senior Erick Migueles led the attack for the Utah lineup, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI on the day.

All told, UC Davis scored one run, but left opportunities on the board, stranding six over the course of the game. That one run came on five hits, one of which went for extra bases. The Aggies didn't get any extra help from Utah pitchers either, as they drew only one walk.

See you next season!
