DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Aggies put 11 runs on the board and beat CSUN 11-4 on Sunday, May 12.
Senior Chris Brown picked up his third win for UC Davis, improving to 3-4 on the season. Sophomore Wesley Moore took the loss for CSUN, which dropped his record to 4-5. The Aggies victory puts their 2019 record at 18-26, 9-12 in the Big West. With the loss, CSUN falls to 21-28 this year, 8-13 in conference play.
UC Davis gave the ball to Brown to start out the contest. He threw five innings, surrendering two runs, both of them earned, on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. The Aggies then went to the bullpen, bringing in junior Chase Lyford for the following 1.2 innings. Lyford allowed one run on two hits before being relieved by sophomore Tim Wieser. Wieser yielded one run in 1.1 innings of work, giving up two CSUN hits. To finish out the game, UC Davis turned to junior Steve Ouellette, who secured the contest's final three outs, allowing no runs and no hits.
UC Davis pitchers as a group allowed the four CSUN runs, all earned, on 10 hits, walking four and fanning five.
As far as hitting was concerned, UC Davis was paced by sophomore Tanner Murray, who went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Senior Caleb Van Blake furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles while finding his way aboard once via walk. Junior Alejandro Lara also contributed for the Aggies, going 2-for-2 with a double and getting on base three times via free pass. Junior Blake Doremus led the attack for the CSUN lineup, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on the day.
Overall, UC Davis scored their 11 runs on 13 hits, four of which went for extra bases. The Aggies supplemented their attack by drawing seven free passes from CSUN pitchers.
The Aggies will take the field again on Tuesday (May 14) in their final home game at Phil Swimley Field against San Francisco with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
