DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore infielder Tanner Murray drove in the game-winning run in the 10th inning as UC Davis walked off San Francisco to take the series on Tuesday afternoon by the score of 3-2.
The win moves UC Davis' record to 19-26. San Francisco, on the other hand, falls to 28-25. Junior Steve Ouellette got his second win of 2019 for the Aggies, bringing his record to 2-3. Senior Joey Steele took the loss, falling to 1-4 on the season.
UC Davis used senior Blake Hannah and five other pitchers to complete the Aggies victory. Hannah threw the game's first two innings, giving up no runs on one hit, walking none and fanning three. The other five hurlers combined to allow two runs on four hits, walk three, and strike out five.
The six UC Davis pitchers worked their way through the San Francisco lineup facing 40 hitters, retiring 13 via flyout. The Aggies were helped by their excellent pitching in pressure situations, as they limited San Francisco hitters to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Murray led the way offensively for UC Davis, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Junior Cooper Morrison put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a run batted in. San Francisco's offensive attack was led by junior Robert Emery, who went 1-for-3 with a double on the day.
As a group, UC Davis pushed across their three runs off of five hits, one of which went for extra bases. The Aggies supplemented their attack by drawing two free passes from San Francisco pitchers.
Big West colleague UC Irvine is next up on the schedule for the Aggies. The series is slated to begin on Friday (May 17) at 6 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark.
