CSUN secures series with 8-2 Saturday win

DAVIS, Calif.-- Junior Cooper Morrison had three hits but UC Davis couldn't come away with a victory over CSUN, losing by the score of 8-2 on Saturday, May 11.

With this in-conference loss, UC Davis drops to 17-26, 8-12 in the Big West. The victory for CSUN brings their overall record to 21-27, 8-12 in conference matchups. Freshman Blake Sodersten got the win, bringing his record to 2-2, while Blaine Traxel tallied his second save of the season. Freshman Jake Spillane took the loss for the Aggies, falling to 1-3 on the season.

UC Davis used Spillane and four other pitchers to complete the ballgame. Spillane threw the game's first four innings, giving up two runs, all of them earned, on three hits while walking four and fanning one. The other four hurlers combined to allow six runs on seven hits, walk two, and strike out four.

The five UC Davis pitchers worked their way through the CSUN lineup facing 45 hitters, retiring 12 via flyout.

Morrison led the way offensively for UC Davis, going 3-for-4. Sophomore Spencer Gedestad furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 0-for-3 with two RBIs. CSUN's lineup was led by senior Kyle Barret, who went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs on the day.

All told, UC Davis scored their two runs off of eight hits, one of which went for extra bases. The Aggies didn't get any extra help from CSUN pitchers either, as they didn't draw a walk.
