Aggies fall to Matadors in series opener, 5-4

DAVIS, Calif. -- Despite picking up 14 hits, UC Davis was unable to push across more runs, falling to CSUN by the score of 5-4 on Friday, May 10.

Sophomore Brett Erwin took the loss for UC Davis, which dropped his record to 5-4. Freshman Blaine Traxel picked up the win for CSUN, improving to 1-2 on the season. The defeat drops the Aggies' 2019 record to 17-25. With the victory, CSUN improves to 20-27 this year.

UC Davis started Erwin on the mound, and he went six innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on nine hits, walking none and fanning three. The Aggies then turned to the bullpen, bringing in sophomore Tim Wieser for the final three innings of the contest. Wieser yielded no runs on two hits.

The two UC Davis pitchers worked their way through the CSUN lineup facing 40 hitters, retiring 12 via flyout.

In the batter's box, UC Davis was led by senior Cameron Briggs, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while walking once. Sophomore Tanner Murray compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.
