Aggies record first shutout of the season over Montana State

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis women's tennis earned its third win in four matches, dominating Montana State 4-0 on Sunday for its first sweep of the season.

Wrapping up the eighth match in two weeks, the Aggies got out to a quick start, sweeping the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Finishing first, Kristina Breisacher and Jessica Walker earned a 6-1 win over Sara Iverson and Sarah Cheverie for their fourth win this season. Clinching the doubles point, Nikita Pradeep and Shirley Hall got back on track with a 6-4 win on court two, while Sara Tsukamoto and Kelsie Bryant recorded their fifth consecutive match win, defeating Montana State 6-4.

Playing the clinch format in singles to accommodate the men's afternoon match against UC Santa Barbara, Bryant, Breisacher and Hall finished first to seal the 4-0 shutout.

The three Aggies all notched a 6-0 second set, and none dropped more than three games. Bryant was the first off the court, winning her fourth dual of the season to improve to 4-5 at No. 6, followed by Breisacher at No. 4, who improves to 5-4 in the position. Clinching the match for UC Davis was Shirley Hall, winning her 13th match of the year, which is a team-high.

The Aggies will return to Marya Welch Tennis Center on Friday, Apr. 12, hosting Nevada in a rescheduled matchup at 2 PM. Women's tennis will continue its homestand against Big West Conference opponent UC Riverside at 11 AM on Saturday, Apr. 13, as part of the campus' 105th Annual Picnic Day festivities.
