DAVIS, Calif. — After dropping a highly contested doubles point that took nearly an hour, the Aggies were unable to pull through in singles play, falling to Long Beach State 0-4 on Saturday.
The Beach struck first in doubles, claiming court two, but Kelsie Bryant and Sara Tsukamoto responded to a 3-4 deficit to win their match 7-5 on court one. The duo has now won four consecutive matches at the top spot. With attention on court three to settle the doubles, Jessica Walker and Kristina Breisacher battled for the match, but barely fell, 5-7.
In singles play, LBSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after winning on courts five and six, while the remaining four matches were fighting for the lead. Tsukamoto was the only one to win her first set, and was leading 4-1 in the second when the match was clinched. Nikita Pradeep dropped her first set in a close tiebreaker and was down 1-3 in the second, while Breisacher was making a comeback, and was up 6-5 in the second after falling in the first. The match was clinched on court three, where Shirley Hall fell 6-4, 6-4 to Natalia Munoz, who improves to 22-7 on the year.
The Aggies continue their homestand on Sunday, hosting Montana State at 10 AM to complete a three-match weekend.
