STANFORD, Calif. -- UC Davis dropped both ends of its first road doubleheader, falling 5-0 to 13th-ranked host Stanford then losing to 11th-ranked California by a similar score, wrapping up Aggie action at Stanford Beach Volleyball Courts Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies move to 2-2 during their inaugural season.
The No. 4 pair of
Rose Holscher and
Savanah Schroeder was the only UC Davis team to pick off a set in the opener against the Cardinal. Holscher/Schroeder battled to a 25-23 loss in the first set, then snared a 23-21 win in the second before falling by a 15-9 final in the deciding frame.
The remaining four Aggie teams lost by 2-0 match scores:
Lauren Matias and
Jane Seslar at No. 1,
Josephine Ough and
Heather Reed at No. 2,
Paloma Bowman and
Chelsea Maeglin at No. 3, and
Ally Reyes and
Alexa Rockas at No. 4.
Matias/Seslar, Ough/Reed, Bowman/Maeglin and Holscher/Schroeder each lost their matches in straight sets against the Golden Bears in the afternoon dual. The No. 5 pairing also saw the debut of freshman
Madelin Smith in the UC Davis lineup. She teamed with

This marks the final UC Davis competition for the winter quarter. The team will return to action on March 23 at Cal.Â
