UC Davis scores 195-plus for fourth straight meet

Landess and Hebert finish 1-2 in all-around as Aggies keep NCAA hopes alive

DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore Gabby Landess won the individual all-around with a 39.175 while fellow second-year Kelley Hebert finished close behind at 39.125, both helping UC Davis to a winning 195.400 team score in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's gymnastics triangular meet at the Pavilion Friday night.

Air Force finished second in the team standings with a 194.100 total while Seattle Pacific placed third at 192.475.

UC Davis broke the 195-point barrier for the fourth straight meet, helped by a 49.200 on balance beam in the third rotation -- the No. 3 team score in school history for that apparatus.

Individually, Landess scored a 9.750 on vault, followed with a 9.800 on uneven bars, then posted a career-best 9.850 on balance beam before wrapping up her meet with a 9.775 on floor exercise. Hebert went 9.725 and 9.650 on vault and bars, respectively, then stuck scores of 9.850 and 9.900 on beam and floor to finish the meet. That marks the fourth straight meet in which Hebert has hit 9.9 or better on floor exercise.

The beam crew enjoyed a 9.775 from sophomore Sarah Liddle, but truly kicked into high gear with Alyssa Ito's career-best 9.900 in the No. 3 slot of the order. Senior Yasmine Yektaparast (9.825), Landess and Hebert closed out the rotation to push UC Davis to its fifth score of 49 or better on beam this season.

That beam score also marks the No. 4 total in MPSF history, while Ito's 9.900 on beam puts her in a tie for fourth in school history and a share of eighth in the conference record book. Ito is now the eighth gymnast in school history to have hit 9.9 or better on beam.

Other highlights included sophomore Cammi Johnson, who tied her career high of 9.825 to finish second on vault; Aya Suzuki, who hit a personal record of 9.800 for a share of third place on floor exercise; and Shannon Sklow, who made her UC Davis debut in exhibition on floor. Sklow scored a 9.850, which would have placed second in the meet.

Hebert now has scored 39 or better in the all-around 12 times in her career, approaching former teammate Alexis Brown's school record of 16. Landess has hit that threshold three times, all in 2019.

Air Force junior Anna Salamone won the vault and bars titles with scores of 9.850 and 9.900. Ito's beam score led a 1-through-5 sweep, while Hebert and Yektaparast (9.825) took the top two places on floor.

Appropriate for a meet with a service academy, Friday's meet honored two UC Davis athletics dignitaries as honorary assistant coaches: economics professor and faculty athletics representative Scott Carrell is an officer in the Air Force and an Academy grad, while assistant athletics director Chris Robinette is a veteran of the U.S. Special Forces.

UC Davis remains at home for its Senior Night regular-season finale on March 15. The Aggies will host Washington, Illinois and Yale in the 7 p.m. quadrangular meet.
