Women’s tennis posts season-best in win over Sacramento State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a Causeway Cup showdown, UC Davis women's tennis triumphed over Sacramento State, winning 5-2 in a season-best performance.

Winning the doubles point, Kelsie Bryant and Sara Tsukamoto are on a two-match win streak at No. 1, clinching the doubles point after Nikita Pradeep and Shirley Hall earned a win at No. 2. Hall and Pradeep are 7-5 on the year in the second spot, while Tsukamoto and Bryant are 5-8 at No. 1. Jessica Walker and Kristina Breisacher were leading 5-4 at the clinch.

In singles, Bryant, Tsukamoto, Pradeep, and Hall finished the day with a perfect 2-0 record, as all posted straight-set wins. Hall was the first off the court, posting a dominant 6-0, 6-2 result over Carolina Chernyetsky, improving to 11-12 overall and 3-9 in duals at No. 3. The Hornets took the match at No. 4, bringing the team score to 2-1, but the Aggies reeled off three straight wins, winning the match 4-1.

Pradeep and Tsukamoto notched their tenth wins of the year, with Pradeep improving to 9-5 at No. 1, and Tsukamoto tied at 7-7 at No. 2 with the clinching match win. Bryant recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Frana Ugarkovic for her second consecutive victory — a career-high dual match win record. 

The Aggies improve to 5-11 on the year, and will remain at home for the remainder of the regular season, hosting Northern Colorado on Friday, Big West opponent Long Beach State on Saturday, and Montana State on Sunday.
