PISMO BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 1 pairing of junior Lauren Matias and Jane Seslar and the No. 5 team of Alexa Rockas and Nicole Andrade each won their respective matches against CSUN, highlighting UC Davis action on the second day of the Big West Challenge beach volleyball tournament at Pismo Beach Saturday.
The Aggies lost to the Matadors by a 3-2 final, then were swept in their nightcap dual against No. 6-ranked Hawai'i.
The Matias/Seslar duo defeated CSUN's No. 1 team of Daniella Molinary and Seyvion Waggoner by scores of 21-17 and 22-20. Meanwhile, Rockas/Andrade edged Matadors Cassidy Rosso and Kailey Klein, 21-19, in the opening set, then lost the second frame, 21-11. However, UC Davis came back to claim the deciding set by a 15-9 final.
All five Aggie pairs lost in straight sets against the nationally ranked Rainbow Wahine in the late-afternoon match. The No. 3 pairing of Josephine Ough and Paloma Bowman and No. 4 team of Rose Holscher and Demari Webb put up the strongest battle, each scoring a total of 24 points against their respective UH opponents.
The Big West Challenge, which features all seven conference members convening on Pismo Beach, concludes on Sunday. UC Davis beach volleyball has also been selected to participate in a takeover of the NCAA Volleyball Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/ncaavolleyball) on that final day.Â
