DAVIS, Calif. — To begin a four-match spring break lineup, the Aggies broke a four-match losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the visiting Montana Grizzlies.
UC Davis women's tennis got off to a strong start by winning the doubles point to set the tone of the match. Evening her doubles dual record this season was sophomore Jessica Walker, who paired with junior Kristina Breisacher at No. 3 to earn the first win for the Aggies, defeating Alex Walker and Bianca Bostrom 6-4. The dynamic duo of junior Nikita Pradeep and sophomore Shirley Hall clinched the point at No. 2 with their sixth dual win of the season, getting the decisive 6-3 win over Lidia Dukic and Claudia Reguant.
Moving onto the rest of the dual, Bostrom was unable to play singles, and stepped out of the lineup. This resulted in only five able players for Montana, giving UC Davis the point for No. 6 singles by default, putting the score 2-0 in favor of the Aggies.
Now only needing to win two matches to clinch, the Aggies did just that. After the Grizzlies took the match at No. 1, ending junior Nikita Pradeep's 12-match home win streak, sophomore Sara Tsukamoto took care of business on court two, defeating Lauren Dunlap 6-3, 6-0. Breisacher clinched the match at 4-1 for UC Davis, getting a straight-set win of her own, evening her dual record this year at 3-3.
Although Hall and Walker both claimed the first sets in their respective matches, neither were able to pull out the second, and fell in competitive third set tiebreakers after the clinch.
The Aggies will hit the road for Wednesday's (twice) rescheduled matchup against No. 7 Stanford. First serve is at 1 PM, and there will be a live stream available for the match.
