Aggie gymnastics hits 2019 road high at Sac State

Hebert (39.275) and Landess (39.075) lead UC Davis in all-around

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sophomores Kelley Hebert and Gabby Landess compiled all-around scores of 39.275 and 39.075, respectively, as UC Davis a team total of 195.450 in a women's collegiate gymnastics triangular meet at The Nest Friday night. That score marks the team's highest road score of the 2019 season, and misses the school's all-time top-10 list by less than a tenth of a point.

No. 14-ranked California won the meet with a season-high 196.975 score while host Sacramento State finished third at 192.625.

The Aggies opened with a 48.475 on uneven bars, then proceeded to crack the 49-point barrier on each of balance beam and floor exercise before hitting a 48.725 on vault to close out their night. The 49.150 on beam ties the program's No. 5 all-time score, and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's No. 6 best; while the 49.100 on floor represents a season high for both the team and the conference.

Hebert captured the individual all-around title with that 39.275, outdueling Cal's Kyana George, who scored a 39.125. Landess finished in third with a 39.075. Hebert also scored 9.900 on each of beam and floor, winning the former outright while tying George for the latter title. The human development major from Dublin, California, also tied for third on vault with a 9.825. Hebert's beam score also stands as a 2019 best.

Redshirt sophomore Alyssa Ito also found herself among the podium finishers with her share of third place on balance beam at 9.850. Landess, sophomore Sarah Liddle and senior co-captain Yasmine Yektaparast each chipped in scores of 9.800 en route to the 49.150 event team total.

Yektaparast (9.850) and Landess (9.825) supported Hebert with high marks on floor to break the 49-point plateau in the third rotation. Yet another sophomore, Cammi Johnson, stuck a 9.800 on vault to help UC Davis put up its best road score on that apparatus since the Collegiate Challenge in early January.

Hebert now has five all-around scores of 39 or better this season, raising her career total to 11. Her former teammate Alexis Brown holds the school benchmark with 16 such scores.

The head-to-head win against Sacramento State also inches UC Davis closer to its seventh-straight Causeway Cup championship in the two schools' multi-sport competition. The Aggies now lead 40-10 heading into Saturday's beach volleyball season-opener.

UC Davis finishes its regular season with back-to-back home meets, starting with a triangular with Air Force and Seattle Pacific on March 8.
