DAVIS, Calif. -- Former UC Davis men's soccer standout Quincy Amarikwa has signed a one-year deal with MLS side D.C. United for the 2019 season, the club announced on Friday (March 1).
It is the sixth MLS club that the 31-year-old Amarikwa has played for since becoming the No. 32 overall selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes, also seeing time with the Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire, and Montreal Impact.
"We are excited to add Quincy to the roster ahead of the 2019 season," Dave Kasper, United general manager and VP of soccer operations, said in a team statement posted on MLSSoccer.com. "He has over 10 years of MLS experience and is going to be a valuable attacking option for us this season. We're looking forward to adding that experience and depth to our roster ahead of our March 3 season opener."
Amarikwa has appeared in 200 matches since making his debut, starting 98 matches and scoring 25 goals while assisting on 19 others in his career. His best season offensively came in 2014 with the Chicago Fire, setting career highs in matches played (31), goals (eight), and assists (5). In 2018 the Bakersfield, Calif., native split time between the Earthquakes and Impact, appearing in 24 matches (eight starts) and scoring a goal while assisting on two others.
As an Aggie, Amarikwa appeared in 77 matches and scored 31 goals in his four seasons at UC Davis, leading the team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a senior in 2008. He was named a second-team All-American and a first-team All-Far West Region selection by the NSCAA that year, as well as the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
He continues to rank among the school's all-time leaders in shots (2nd - 201), goals scored (31 - 3rd), and points (5th - 69), while holding program Division I records for points (43), points per game (1.13), goals (20), goals per game (0.53).
Amarikwa and D.C. United open the 2019 MLS season on Sunday (March 3) at home against defending champion Atlanta United FC.
