OFFICIAL SCORESHEET

SPRINGTOWN, Tex. — The Aggies wrapped up their second road meet of the season on Thursday afternoon at No. 8 TCU, splitting Equitation on the Flat with the Horned Frogs—who are ranked eighth in the nation in the event—after picking up two other points in Equitation Over Fences and Reining. But UC Davis could not close the gap on TCU, lifting the Horned Frogs to a 12-4 win over the Aggies.

The Aggies fell to a 1-2 overall mark while the Horned Frogs improved to a 5-4 record on the season. UC Davis will face off against United Equestrian Conference colleague, No. 4 SMU, tomorrow (Feb. 22) beginning at 8 a.m. PT/10 a.m. CT.

The Aggies were first to strike on Thursday afternoon at Turning Point Ranch, earning the first point of the day in Equitation Over Fences after junior animal science major Stephanie Don defeated Raegan Rast, 74-63. Don currently co-leads the Aggies with a 2-1 individual record on the season so far.

The Aggies continued to battle in the second event of the day with sophomore animal science major Charlize Zuraek securing her first career Reining point after downing Bella Andrews, 69-64.5. Zuraek's score marks the highest by an Aggie rider this season and was later tied by senior teammate and recent UEC Rider of the Week (Reining) Laurel Jackson, who was edged 71.5-69.

Ranked seventh in the nation in Horsemanship, the Horned Frogs swept the Aggies to take a 10-2 lead heading into the final event of the afternoon.

TCU then jumped out to a 12-2 advantage after securing the first two Equitation on the Flat points, but the Aggies had more to say. Freshman Keely Laughlin went on to defeat Izzy Baxter tying a career-best score of 85, before UEC Rider of the Week (Fences) Sabin Marquardt capped off the afternoon with a 73-70 win over Wynne Weatherly to help the Aggies split the event, 2-2, with a No. 8 ranked TCU squad.

UC Davis resumes action tomorrow (Feb. 22) at the Dallas Equestrian Center against UEC colleague No. 4 SMU beginning at 8 a.m. PT/10 a.m. CT in Dallas, Tex.
