DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomores
Kelley Hebert and
Kyla Kessler posted all-around scores of 39.175 and 39.100, respectively, leading UC Davis to a season-best 195.525 in Sunday's home dual gymnastics meet with New Hampshire at the Pavilion. The visiting Wildcats won the meet at 196.025.
The Aggies' team total ranks as the 10th highest in school history, while the 49.100 on vault ties the third-best score for that event in program annals.Â
Hebert and Kessler also tied for the individual meet title on vault with matching 9.875 scores, while Hebert won the floor exercise outright with her season-best 9.925. In fact, that latter mark represents her highest floor score since she tied the school record of 9.950 in two home meets in March 2018.
UNH's Danielle Mulligan won the individual all-around with a 39.325, plus the meet titles on bars (9.825) and beam (9.900).
UC Davis had three personal records on vault to start the meet, with redshirt sophomore
Alyssa Ito scoring a 9.775 to lead off the event then Hebert and Kessler notching their eventual winning scores. The team's 49.100 marks the highest score since February 20, 2015, when the Aggies hit that same mark in a road meet at San Jose State. It also ties the No. 5 total in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation history.
The Aggies then totaled a 48.350 on uneven bars, with senior
Aya Suzuki leading the way with her 9.725 in the anchor position, plus Kessler and sophomore
Gabby Landess each chipping in 9.700 marks. That set the stage for the third rotation and the UC Davis' beam squad, which scored an even 49.000 -- the team's highest in the event in almost a full month. Senior
Yasmine Yektaparast led the Aggie beam team with her second-place 9.850, with Ito and Kessler following close behind at 9.825.
UC Davis closed out the meet with another season high, a 49.075 on floor. Hebert's winning 9.925 anchored the lineup. Sophomore
Sarah Liddle scored a personal-record 9.825 in the No. 2 spot in the order, which Yektaparast equaled three routines later.
Hebert and Kessler finished 2-3 in the all-around race, while Landess also enjoyed a 4-for-4 day with her 38.950 sum.
UC Davis enters a short week of practice, then returns for another home dual against MPSF rival San Jose State on Friday. Meet time is 7 p.m.
