COLLEGE STATION, Tex. — The UC Davis equestrian team made program history for the second time this season with the completion of its first ever road meet at No. 4 Texas A&M. But the nationally ranked Aggies would prove too much to overcome, resulting in a 2-14 loss for UC Davis at the Hildebrand Equine Complex on Saturday afternoon in College Station, Tex.Â
UC Davis fell to an even 1-1 overall record, while Texas A&M improved to a 7-3 mark on the season. UC Davis will return to the road next week for back-to-back duals against No. 7 TCU (Feb. 21) and United Equestrian Conference colleague No. 2 SMU (Feb. 22).
Texas A&M jumped out to an early 3-1 advantage after Equitation over Fences, with junior Sabin Marquardt earning the lone UC Davis point thanks to a season-high score of 82 to defeat Rhian Murphy (75). The Encinitas, Calif.-native improves to a team-best 2-0 record on the season.Â
After sweeping Horsemanship and Equitation on the Flat, the host Aggies entered the final event of the afternoon with an 11-1 lead over UC Davis.Â
UC Davis would go on to capture its final point of the day in Reining as senior Laurel Jackson defeated Marissa Harrell with a 67.5-0 ride. Saturday's competition also marked the first official meet of the season for the UC Davis Reining squad.
UC Davis resumes action next week with a pair of road duals at No. No. 7 TCU (Feb. 21) and United Equestrian Conference colleague No. 2 SMU (Feb. 22).
