DAVIS, Calif. – Eddie Robinson FCS National Coach of the Year
Dan Hawkins, signed a two-year extension, and is now under contract throughout the 2023 season, as announced by Director of Athletics
Kevin Blue on Wednesday.
The announcement follows the most successful season in the program's Division I era, one that included the UC Davis' inaugural Big Sky Conference championship, first-ever FCS playoff appearance, a berth in the Elite Eight and home postseason game.
"I am very honored that Chancellor May and
Kevin Blue believe in Aggie football, the progress and direction we are headed," said Hawkins.
To continue the program's #AGScension, numerous members of the Aggies' coaching staff are being promoted to new positions. Quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator
Tim Plough is being elevated to the role of associate head coach; offensive line coach
Tim Keane will be become the program's new running game coordinator;
Jerry Brady and
Cody Hawkins will each be named assistant directors of football operations and recruiting in addition to their position coaching duties.
"As we continue to improve and reinvent our program, we continually try to recognize our staff's talents and utilize them accordingly," added Hawkins.
Throughout the 100th season of Aggie football, the program won 10 overall and seven league games, both new program records, which led to its inaugural Big Sky Conference championship.
By winning a league crown, combined with the strength of its schedule and overall results, UC Davis was ranked No. 6 by the NCAA Playoff Committee and earned the right to host a playoff game in its inaugural FCS postseason appearance. In that historic event, the Aggies defeated Northern Iowa, 23-16, which led to their first undefeated home record as a D-I program and first since the 2002 season.
The defending conference champions will open the 2019 season on August 31 at Cal, and will begin preparing for its title defense when winter practices begin on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The program will practice Tuesday-Thursday Mornings and Friday evenings. UC Davis' four-week slate of off-season workouts will culminate with the team's Spring Game takes place at Aggie Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8.
Football student-athletes representing the fifth-ranked public school in the nation also earned another historic first when STATS FCS ranked them No. 4 in the nation, the highest in-season ranking in program history.
UC Davis football fans can secure the best seats for the 2019 season, one that includes five home games in addition to five matchups against teams that advanced to the playoffs last year, by
