Gilliam earns STATS FCS All-America nod

Aggie sophomore ranks ninth nationally in rushing yards

UC Davis sophomore running back Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. earned a spot on the STATS FCS All-America third team, it was announced by that organization Thursday morning.

This marks the second award of the week for the human development major from Merced: Gilliam claimed HERO Sports Sophomore All-America accolades on Tuesday. He was also a second-team All-Big Sky Conference honoree, while last year he captured Freshman All-America acclaim from both HERO Sports and Phil Steele.

Gilliam led the Big Sky in both rushing (104.1 yards per game) and all-purpose yards (133.6 ypg), ranking ninth and 15th nationally in those respective categories. He posted five 100-yard games in 2019, including four during the second half of the season. At Portland State on November 9, Gilliam broke three milestones: his first 200-yard game (242), his 1,000th yard of the season, and the 2,000th yard of his career.

Overall, his 1,249 rushing yards puts him seventh on UC Davis' single-season list, while his career total of 2,225 yards already has him sixth all-time despite just two seasons in the books. Gilliam also tied his own school record for receptions by a running back, hauling in 57 passes for 354 yards.

Gilliam was one of 16 Big Sky Conference players on the STATS FCS All-America rolls.

UC Davis finished 5-7 in 2019, having faced seven opponents either ranked or receiving votes in the two major FCS Top 25 polls.
