BOZEMAN, Mont. -- The UC Davis Aggies fell short in a 77-65 loss to the Montana State Bobcats at Worthington Arena in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday.

UC Davis dropped to 0-1 overall with the defeat.

The Aggies had three players score in double figures, led by sophomore anthropology major Kayla Konrad, who had a career-high 17 points. Senior communication major Katie Toole tacked on a career high of her own with 15 points and four assists and senior American studies major Nina Bessolo helped out with 12 points on a quartet of three-pointers and two steals.

The UC Davis defense proved to be a problem for the Bobcats in Friday's game, forcing 16 Montana State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Junior cell biology major Cierra Hall's two steals led the way individually for the Aggies.

UC Davis struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Aggies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 47-28 halftime deficit.

Montana State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 59-31 advantage before UC Davis went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Konrad, to trim its deficit to 59-39 with 1:23 to go in the third. Montana State countered and stretched its lead to 60-39 heading into the fourth. UC Davis played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 11 points in the paint.

UC Davis kept the Bobcats from increasing their lead before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Katie Toole's layup, to shrink the deficit to 62-48 with 7:42 to go in the contest. The Aggies kept their comeback going, but Montana State managed to hold on for the 77-65 win. UC Davis fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 26 points.

The Aggies are back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 12), when they'll take on Fresno State at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.
