DAVIS, Calif. – No. 10 Montana State fought back from a three-point third quarter deficit as UC Davis fell to the Bobcats 27-17 on Saturday afternoon at UC Davis Health Stadium.
The loss brought the Aggies record to 5-6 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Senior communication major
Jake Maier led UC Davis' passing attack with 273 yards through the air. With that total, Maier is the program's new all-time career passing yards leader, passing J.T. O'Sullivan's 10,745 (1998-2001). Maier will enter next weekend's Causeway Classic with 10,930 yards.
Sophomore biochemistry and molecular biology major
Ulonzo Gilliam, Jr. led all Aggies rushers with 133 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, picking up 6.6 yards per carry. Gilliam, Jr. also added 48 receiving yards. Sophomore communication major
Troy Spencer also added 16 yards on the ground, averaging 16 yards per carry.
UC Davis also got a significant contribution from junior psychology major
Darius Livingston, who caught two passes for 40 yards.
Freshman
Da'Von Frazier paced the UC Davis defensive effort, recording six tackles, 3.5 TFL, and one sack. Senior sociology major
Nas Anesi added five tackles, 1.0 TFL, one sack, and one forced fumble and senior cognitive science major
Eric Flowers had nine tackles and 1.5 TFL in the loss.
After Montana State jumped out to a 7-0 lead, UC Davis responded to make it a 7-3 deficit. Senior communication major
Max O'Rourke converted a 23-yard field goal with 14:01 left in the second quarter to finish off a 10-play, 78-yard scoring drive.
UC Davis scored again to take the lead at 10-7. The Aggies ended an eight-play, 79-yard drive when Jr. Gilliam ran in a four-yard touchdown with 7:40 left in the second quarter.
Montana State then grabbed a 14-10 lead before UC Davis responded to jump back in front 17-14. Gilliam converted an 18-yard touchdown run with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter to finish off a seven-play, 60-yard drive. UC Davis didn't score again in the game and Montana State added 13 more points to finish off the scoring.
The Aggies are back in action on Saturday, Nov, 23, when they'll take on Sacramento State at Hornet Stadium in this season's Causeway Classic.
