SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Thursday night's Big West Conference opener at Cal Poly was scoreless at halftime, and for nearly 20 minutes once play resumed until Luke Hazel's header in the 64th minute hit the inside upper right-hand corner of the goal, which gave UC Davis the lead for good as it concluded a program-record seven-game road swing with a 1-0 win at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

The Aggies will return home for Saturday's 1 p.m. matchup versus CSUN with a 7-3-1 overall and 1-0 Big West record. Cal Poly will continue its season at 4-5-1 and 0-1, respectively.

After a Mustang shot sailed wide and was corralled by Aggie goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley, his quick long ball, which covered more than two-thirds of the field, was deflected over the Mustangs' end line, which resulted in a UC Davis corner kick.

Following Adam Mickelson's textbook cross, Hazel stepped up just inside the 18-yard box, and drilled his shot into the back of the net.

Now leading 1-0, UC Davis' defense took care of business for the rest of the evening by preventing CP from recording a shot on goal for the rest of the match, which ultimately enabled the Aggies to depart San Luis Obispo with their second win in as many games on the Mustangs' home turf.

Thursday's result also extended men's soccer's head-to-head unbeaten streak to three games.

Thanks to the stellar effort from his back line, Lapsley needed to make only one save throughout the entire match to earn his third shutout victory of the season, and end his team's program-record road swing with another impressive victory.

Included in this seven-game trek were victories at No. 6 Saint Mary's, which snapped the Gaels' 26-game home and 31-game overall unbeaten streak (the ninth-longest all-time in NCAA Division I history), San José State, last Saturday's come-from-behind overtime result against its cross-Causeway rival and Thursday night's Big West opener.
