Keelan Doss shines in 70th-annual Reese's Senior Bowl game

Aggie wide receiver earns kudos from North head coach Jon Gruden and his Oakland Raiders' coaching staff for making key plays all day long.

MOBILE, Ala. – Saturday's Reese's Senior Bowl game, college football's showcase event that features the top senior football players in the nation, capped an outstanding week for wide receiver Keelan Doss.

In this year's game, the two-time consensus All-American made the most of his on-field opportunities by leading all North squad receivers, who caught two or more passes, with his 13.8 yards per catch average.

Included in his four receptions was this highlight-reel play…

… and this one, which took place midway through the third quarter.

Competing for a North squad led by NFL legend and current Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden (and the coaching staff of his hometown NFL team) the Alameda native finished with four receptions for 55 yards — the second highest total in each category among all North players.
As an added bonus, Gruden slapped a sticker of the Raiders' logo on Doss' helmet during the game — the coach's way of celebrating the players on his North roster who made a key play or positively impacted the game.

With Doss shining on Saturday's stage, he and his North teammates defeated their South counterparts — coached by the San Francisco 49ers' staff — 34-24.

Even though the Senior Bowl game itself is designed to provide every invitee with a chance to compete in front of NFL scouts, team personnel and fans who made the trek to Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., Doss showcased his talents in the 70th-annual invitation-only event

Not only did Doss impress the crowd, NFL Network analysts who covered this national broadcast and football fans with Saturday's performance — something Aggie fans were lucky to witness throughout his career at UC Davis — he also caught the attention of NFL scouts and pundits who attended the three practices leading up to this year's game.

"Everybody will tell you they look at the Senior Bowl practice tape, the Senior Bowl game film over and over and over," Gruden said earlier this week. "You watch the matchups over and over and over.

"I remember doing it with [late Raiders owner/GM Al Davis]. He would put the Senior Bowl on for the 44th time and I would say, 'how many more times are we going to watch that game?' There's tremendous value in it. It's a great tool, and provides great matchups you would never see if you didn't come here."
