Big West
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After its hard-fought battle at UC Irvine in Thursday's Big West opener, UC Davis' ESPN3 week will continue on Saturday at Long Beach State. Tipoff versus the 49ers is set for 4 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid.
As was the case with Thursday's game, ESPN3 will broadcast this league matchup for a national audience, available online on ESPN3.com, WatchESPN.com, or the WatchESPN and ESPN apps. Calling the action for the network are Tim Becwar (PBP), Dave Miller (Analyst) and Matt Brown (Sideline).
Scott Marsh will also provide a call of this game for 1380 AM KTKZ and the station's internet broadcast, which is available on TuneIn Radio by searching the phrase "The Answer KTKZ."
UC Davis and Long Beach State have treated basketball fans to thrilling matchups in recent seasons, none more so than last year's 105-104 double-overtime classic that saw senior guard
TJ Shorts II nail a running three-pointer to lift his team to a last-second victory.
The Aggies will enter the Walter Pyramid with a three-game win streak versus the 49ers, with two of those triumphs earned in overtime.
If you go back to the 2014-15 season, UC Davis won five of the last eight played against Long Beach State; four of those game needed overtime — or in last year's case, double-OT — to determine a winner.
Of those four games, the Aggies won three.
No mainland Big West team possesses as strong a home court advantage that UC Davis: its .807 win percentage and 46 victories, throughout the last four years, are unmatched by every league team except Hawai'i, a team that hosts multiple home tournaments each year.
In addition to the Aggies and Hawai'i, Long Beach State's home environment has been a difficult one for opponents to handle in recent seasons. However, UC Davis has fared well at LBSU during the championship portion of the Jim Les era, and won two of the last four played on the 49ers home floor.
Off since Jan. 5, when it hosted Bethesda, Saturday's game is the first league event of the season for a Long Beach State team that is 5-1 at home this year, and suffered its lone loss to Pac-12 foe Oregon State.
Series Record: UC Davis trails 21-7
Last UC Davis Win: 2/3/18 - A, 105-104 (2OT)
Last Long Beach State Win: 2/16/17 - A, 78-69 (OT)
Series Streak: UC Davis +3
