Aggies power past Chippewas, 3-0

Redshirt sophomore Sara Janetzky logged her first career goal as an Aggie while redshirt senior Nica Taglieri set a new single-game program record with a career-best three assists on the afternoon.

ATHENS, Ohio — Redshirt senior forward Nica Taglieri set a new single-game program record with a career-high three assists on the afternoon, while redshirt sophomore Sara Janetzky netted her first career goal as an Aggie in her third appearance of the season, helping lift UC Davis to a shutout victory over Central Michigan, 3-0, during Friday afternoon's neutral-site match at Pruitt Field in Athens, Ohio.

After suffering a season-ending injury in 2017, Janetzky logged her first collegiate goal in her third appearance back in the lineup for UC Davis. Freshman midfielder Eline van den Bosch tallied her team-high fourth goal of the season, while fellow freshman Brooke Sanchez recorded her second career goal. Taglieri made program history setting a new school record as the first Aggie to record three assists in a single game. Freshman Milou Korthouwer and sophmore Madison Theodore each chipped in an assist.

The Aggies improve to a 5-6 overall mark with the win and are set to square off against Ball State on Monday (Sept. 24) at 10 a.m. (PT)/ 1 p.m. (ET) in Muncie, Ind. The Chippewas fell to 1-10 on the year and are scheduled to face Ohio in their next match on Sunday (Sept. 23).

Following 34 minutes of scoreless action, Janetzky broke the silence to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage with just seven seconds left before heading into the halftime break. Assisting on the corner goal were Korthouwer and Taglieri, who garnered their second and third assists of the season, respectively.

Scoring their second goal in similar fashion, this time off the stick of van den Bosch, the Aggies never looked back, out-shooting the Chippewas in the second half, 12-3, while drawing seven corners to Central Michigan's two. Taglieri logged her second assist of the day while Theodore tallied her first career assist (and point).

But UC Davis had more to say, scoring its third and final goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute with Taglieri  helping Sanchez find the back the cage.

Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow logged a pair of saves on the day, bringing her season total to 61.

UC Davis resumes action next week capping off its eight-game stint on the road at Ball State (0-7) on Monday (Sept. 24) at 10 a.m. (PT)/ 1 p.m. (ET) at BSU Turf Field in Muncie, Ind.
