ATHENS, Ohio — After an early goal by the Bobcats junior goalkeeper Chelsea Bigelow closed out the first half with four saves. Despite out-shooting Ohio in the second half, 8-4, and logging a total of seven shots on-goal to Ohio's six, the Aggies could not get on the board, resulting in a narrow 1-0 win for the Bobcats on Thursday afternoon at Pruitt Field in Athens, Ohio.
Freshmen Eline van den Bosch and Brooke Sanchez each tallied a single game career-high two shots on-goal while sophomore Madison Theodore forced a save for third time this season.
The Aggies will enter tomorrow's neutral-site match against Central Michigan with a 4-6 mark, while the host Bobcats improved to 3-4 on the season and will face the Chippewas in their next game on Sunday.
The Bobcats were first to get on the board on Thursday afternoon, jumping out to a 1-0 lead at 1:13 converting a counter-attack play off a steal.
Freshmen Siena Dwyer and van den Bosch would force a pair of saves in the first half by Ohio goalkeeper, Alex Pennington, but UC Davis could not find the back of the cage.
The Aggies then found new life in the second half, drawing four corners and outshooting Ohio, 8-4, while limiting the Bobcats to just one shot on goal.
With 2:52 remaining, the Aggies elected for a kicking back, with Theodore forcing the seventh and final save of the day by Pennington in the 67th minute. But time would eventually run out on the Aggies, resulting in a 1-0 win for the Bobcats.
UC Davis returns to Pruitt Field tomorrow (Sept. 21) for a neutral-site matchup with Central Michigan at 3 p.m. (PT)/ 6 p.m. (ET).
