DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis freshman Alyse Rojas finished 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while teammates Meghan Bradbury and Marissa Jauregui each slugged home runs on the day, but it wasn't enough to hold off league-leading Cal State Fullerton, which rallied for six runs in the seventh en route to an, 8-6, victory and a dramatic series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Family Field.
The Aggies wrapped up their final road trip of the season with a 24-21 overall record and a 6-9 mark in Big West Conference play, as they play host to Long Beach State (May 5-6) and Hawai'i (May 11-12) at La Rue Field in their final two series of the year. The Titans remained atop the conference standings with the win, improving to 29-20 overall and 14-1 in league play.
Just as they had done in the first two games of the series, UC Davis came roaring out of the gate with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings to take the early lead. Freshman Riley Siegel wasted no time in breaking the seal, staking her team to an early 2-0 lead with a one-out, two-run single that scored Alyse Rojas and Aly Gomonet ahead of her after they lead off the game with back-to-back singles and were sacrificed over by Isabella Leon.
For the second time this season, Bradbury left the yard over the left field fence with one out in the second, and Alyse Rojas followed a Jauregui single with an RBI double to the gap in right centerfield to extend the lead to 4-0.
A pair of unearned runs in the home half of the second halved the Aggies' advantage, but UC Davis pulled both runs back in the fourth with one out as Bradbury singled to bring up Jauregui, who send the second pitch she saw over the fence in left for her first of the season and a, 6-2, lead.
Yanez, who entered in relief in the second was cruising, allowing only two baserunners from the third to the sixth until the Titans came up with their winning rally in the seventh. A two-run single by Deshea Hill and an RBI hit from Bryanna Ybarra brought Fullerton to within a run and chase Yanez from the game in favor of starter Katie Kibby, who got the second out after reentering on a fly ball to left.
That brought up pinch-hitter Mikaela Francis, who worked the count in her advantage after three pitches before sending the fourth over the wall in right to complete the comeback.
Kibby (10-9) was charged with the loss, allowing one earned run on three hits and striking out one over two innings. Sophie Frost (13-5) earned the win, throwing 5.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out a pair.
Leon, Bradbury, and Jauregui, each finished with two hits to join Alyse Rojas in the multi-hit club, while Rojas collected her 19th multi-hit game of the season - the most since Alex Holmes finished with that many in 2010, and one shot of Christa Castello's Division I single-season record of 20 multi-hit games in 2014.
With her two hits on Sunday, Bradbury has now reached base safely in her last eight games - hitting safely in seven of those - to tie for the fifth-longest such streak by an Aggie hitter this season.
UC Davis opens its series with Long Beach State on Saturday (May 5) at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader at La Rue Field, concluding with a single game on Sunday (May 6), also at 1 p.m.
