DAVIS, Calif. – Senior sociology major
Keelan Doss earned Associated Press All-America honors for the second season in a row when the outlet announced its award winners on Tuesday. Doss, a Walter Payton Award national finalist for the most outstanding FCS offensive player in the nation, earned a spot on the second team.
Instead of declaring for the 2018 NFL draft, the Alameda, Calif. native returned to UC Davis for his final season, one that saw him finish with a career-high 118 receptions for 1,334 yards and nine touchdowns.
The wide receiver's presence and leadership, both on and off the field, were key reasons why the Aggies captured their inaugural Big Sky Conference championship, finished the season in first place, earned their first-ever FCS playoff appearance (as a No. 6 seed) and FCS postseason victory.
In addition to his receiving yards total, his Big Sky-high 9.1 receptions per game ranked him No. 3 among all players in the nation — even with opposing defenses focusing their game plans around last season's consensus All-American and Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year.
Doss' 102.6 receiving yards per game average was the 13th-highest figure in the country; his nine receiving TDs was another top-25 total.
No Aggie finished with more all-purpose yardage that the 2018 All-Big Sky selection since his 1,416 total yards and 108.9 ypg clip were both team highs.
The most decorated player in program history set numerous new records throughout his final season at UC Davis, a list of all-time marks that includes receptions (321), receiving yards (4,069) and 100-yard games (19). Doss will also end his college career with another three Big Sky-era program records: receiving touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (29) and all-purpose yards (4,218).
No Big Sky player finished with more receptions in a single game this season than Doss when he caught 16 passes for 205 yards in this year's Causeway Classic, a game that clinched a league title for the Aggies. That afternoon, he also recorded the fifth multi-touchdown game of his career when he scored twice, the second time within a three-game timespan he accomplished this feat.
That game against the Hornets was one of a league-high seven 100-yard performances that took place throughout the year, and marked the fourth time in UC Davis' Big Sky era that a receiver finished with 200 or more yards.
Of those four 200-yard efforts, Doss is responsible for three. in addition to finishing with 207 yards in last year's Causeway matchup at Sacramento State, he recorded a Big Sky-era single-game record 208 yards in last year's home game vs. Eastern Washington.
