Aggies wrap up fall at Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. — After a fall season filled with six team tournaments, UC Davis men's tennis wrapped up play at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic on Sunday.

After the tournament's first day, sophomore Chethan Swanson and freshman Alex Scemanenco earned a spot in the Flight A doubles semifinal against San Francisco's Paul Giraud and Phuc Huynh, but barely fell, 8-7(2).

In singles, sophomore Arjith Jayaraman got through his first round consolation match in Flight B, defeating St. Mary's Boris Reckow in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, to join Scemanenco in the consolation semifinal round. Scemanenco received a walkover in his first round consolation match against Sacramento State's Louis Chabut. Unfortunately, neither player was able to reach the final, losing in straight sets to opponents from San Francisco and St. Mary's.

In Sunday's extra matches, Scemanenco and Swanson both went undefeated, earning a win together over Jeremy Merville and Delmas N'tcha (Nevada) 8-3 in doubles. In singles, Scemanenco won his match against Patrick Pech (Fresno) in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(3), while Swanson needed just two sets to dispatch Reckow (St. Mary's), 6-4, 6-3.

The Aggies will return to action with the start of the spring dual season in January 2019. The full schedule will be posted on UCDavisAggies.com.
