Aggies add three for 2019 during early signing period

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis head men's soccer coach Dwayne Shaffer announced Monday that three high school standouts have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and athletic careers with the Aggies beginning with the 2019 season.

Maximilian Arfsten (Fresno, Calif. / Cal Odyssey SC), Sean Bilter (Hillsborough, Calif. / De Anza Force Academy), and Ryan Dieter (Santa Rosa, Calif. / Atletico Santa Rosa), will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning next year.

"We are excited to add three outstanding student-athletes to our program," Shaffer said. "Each one of them will add a special quality to strengthen our program during their careers as Aggies."

Brief bios on each of the UC Davis signees are below.

The Aggies, who played 13 of their 20 matches on the road — including all three of their tournament matches — and posted a 7-2-4 in those contests, wrapped up a 2018 campaign with an 11-4-5 overall record and a 3-2-2 mark in Big West Conference play, reaching the championship match of the league tournament for the second consecutive year as the No. 5 seed before falling in penalties to UC Riverside.

UC Davis' 11 wins matched its win total from 2017 and gave the program back-to-back seasons with double-digit win totals for the first time since 2007 (12) and 2008 (13), while the four defeats were tied for the fewest in the program's Division I history, matching the 2014 squad that finished 7-4-9 overall. The Aggies finished the season unbeaten in their last five contests (3-0-2), posting three shutouts and surrendering only three goals in that span.
