DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis' climb up the national poll continued following its Battle for the Golden Horseshoe blowout victory at Cal Poly this past weekend. By scoring 52 straight points on the Mustangs' home field, voters noticed how brutally efficient the Aggies were on both sides of the ball, as indicated by its No. 6 ranking.

This ranking erases the previous program high, which was set last week when football received its first-ever top 10 national ranking. Including this week's listing, UC Davis spent the last seven weeks in STATS FCS' poll, earning a higher ranking each occasion.

Junior communication major Jake Maier also earned honors for outstanding performance in last week's Central Coast rivalry game when College Sports Madness, a subsidiary of USA Today Sports, named him its Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

Those honors are well deserved: After throwing five touchdowns throughout the Aggies' come-from-behind overtime thriller during Homecoming Weekend, Maier responded last weekend by throwing another five, matching a single-game Big Sky era program record in the process on both occasions.

No Big Sky quarterback averages more passing yards per game than the La Habra, Calif. native (308.6 ypg), the fourth-highest clip in the nation. That is the same ranking as UC Davis' passing offense, which averages 332.3 ypg and is responsible for 42.4 points per game — the best in the Big West and fifth-highest in the country.

UC Davis' final Monday accolade took place when the AFCA released this week's Coaches' Poll, one that saw the Aggies move three spots to 13.

The Aggies will complete their two-game road swing on Saturday when they visit Montana for a 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT Big Sky showdown. SWX will televise that game locally, everyone else in the nation can watch on Pluto TV (channel 237), online at WatchBigSky.com or listen on Sports 1140 KHTK.
