Dylan Wood also found the back of the net, helping lift the Aggies to their first Big West Conference victory of the season, 3-0, over host UC Riverside on Saturday night.
The victory snapped a three-match winless streak for UC Davis, which improved to 8-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in league play. Saturday marked the fifth time this season that the Aggies have scored three goals in a match — their first since a 3-1 win over Santa Clara on Sept. 15.
Riding a two-match winning streak entering the night, the Highlanders fell to 4-9-1 overall and 2-2 in conference.
Mickelson's performance was his third three-point match of the season after finishing with a goal and an assist in wins over CSU Bakersfield and Gonzaga earlier this year, giving him 29 career points and moving him into a tie with
Sule Anibaba for ninth on the program's Division I list in that category.
The Missoula, Mont., native now has a team-high 14 points on the year thanks to four goals and six assists, tying him for seventh on the program's Division I single-season list, while his six assists this year rank tied for second on the Division I single-season chart in that category.
His first point of the night came on Wright's eventual game-winner in the 60th minute before getting into the scoring column with his fourth goal of the season nine minutes later, working a give-and-go with senior history major
Brian Quintero for the 2-0 lead.
Mickelson finished with a match-high five shots, putting a pair on frame, to help lead the Aggies to a 12-9 shot advantage for the match — including a 9-2 lead in the second half alone.
Wood would step to the spot in the 72nd minute after a teammate was taken down in the box, converting a penalty kick for the final 3-0 advantage.
The goals for Wright and Wood were both their third of the season, moving them into a tie for second on the team with eight points on the year. Meanwhile, at the other end, junior global disease biology major
Wallis Lapsley stopped the Highlanders' only two shots on frame to post his fifth shutout of the year and the ninth of his career. The Seattle, Wash., native's 54 saves this season rank sixth on the school's Division I single-season list — just 15 back of Omar Zeenni's record of 69 set in 2012.
UC Davis remains on the road to open next week, heading down the coast to battle UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. The Aggies then return home for the final time in the 2018 regular season on Saturday (Oct. 20), hosting Cal State Fullerton on "Senior Day" at 4 p.m.
