Aggies thwarted in overtime at Fresno State

Box Score Sept. 7, 2017

Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. -- Sophomore Olivia Jones found the back of the net for the first time this season midway through the second half to bring UC Davis level on the road, but Fresno State was able to outlast the visiting Aggies, scoring the game-winner in the 97th minute on Thursday night, lifting the Bulldogs to a, 2-1, overtime win at the Bulldog Soccer and Lacrosse Field in Fresno, Calif.

The loss dropped UC Davis to 1-6 overall on the year, logging its sixth one-goal result of the season and its fifth loss by a single score. Fresno State improved to 3-2-1 overall with the win.

Following a scoreless first half, the Bulldogs put the first goal of the match on the board in the 57th minute, but the Aggies were able to answer quickly on Jones' strike eight minutes later, converting a pass from teammate Roisin Allaeddini for her first goal of the season to make it a 1-1 contest.

It was the first score for Jones, a managerial economics major from Santa Barbara, Calif., since she found the back of the net for the first time in her UC Davis career as part of a 2-1 win at UC Santa Barbara last season. For Allaeddini, it was the first career assist for the Orange, Calif., native, logging her first point since scoring a goal in a 2-2 draw with Saint Mary's on Sept. 24 last year.

Junior goalkeeper Alexis Smith finished with six saves -- four of those in the second half and overtime -- and got some help from the woodwork as Fresno State hit the crossbar twice in the final 13 minutes to force overtime. That's when Julia Glaser put the Bulldogs ahead for good, covering a pass from teammate Peyton Cline with just over three minutes to play for her second goal of the match and the game-winner.

Freshman Mahlah Catline finished with a team-high three shots to pace the Aggies, who had six different players finish with attempts on the night. Myra Delgadillo led all players with six shots for the Bulldogs, who held an 18-8 advantage in that category on the night.

Thursday night marked the lone match of the week for UC Davis, which returns to the field to open a five-match home stand on Monday (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m., against Causeway Cup rival Sacramento State at the Aggie Soccer Field.
