OGDEN, Utah - An outstanding performance throughout UC Davis' season opener last weekend led to ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week accolades for junior wide receiver
Keelan Doss, as announced by Big Sky officials on Monday.
The Alameda, Calif. native wowed a crowd of 46,000-plus when UC Davis visited San Diego State — a team that entered its season opener receiving votes in both national FBS polls — thanks to his eight reception, 181-yard effort vs. the Aztecs. That single-game total is the third-highest in program history, and the second-highest of Doss' career, trailing only his 202-yard performance in last year's Causeway Classic.
Doss also recorded his first interception as an Aggie when he thwarted the Aztecs' last-minute scoring attempt just before halftime.
Responsible for the Aggies' first touchdown of the season, four of Doss' receptions covered 30 or more yards: a 41-yard strike on the first play of the game/season, a 30-yard catch later that half, a 38-yard and a 32-yard completion on the same drive, with the latter capping a nine-play, 95-yard scoring effort that led to six Aggie points.
Doss' performance also gained the attention of national pundits, who bestowed STATS FCS Football National Offensive Player of the Week to the 2016 All-Big Sky second team selection. This was one of two awards he garnered from football media; Scott Marsh and Doug Kelly, the voices of UC Davis football, also chose him as the DuPratt Ford Built Tough Player of the Game.
This is the first time that Doss, an organizational studies major collected Big Sky and STATS FCS weekly honors.
