DAVIS, Calif. - After recording a sweep in its season-opening doubleheader, UC Davis will host its first home game of the season, and compete in the first of five non-conference tournaments.
For a one-time fee, fans can access a video stream of games taking place this weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, courtesy of FloSoftball. The link to purchase a subscription, and access these streams are available above, and on softball's schedule page at UCDavisAggies.com.
In the first of two Farm vs. Farm rivalry matchups taking place this season, Stanford will visit La Rue Field Wednesday afternoon for the Aggies' 2:30 p.m. home opener. This is the only home event taking place this month since softball will compete at the MNCC and Bulldog Classic before hosting another non-conference contest.
UC Davis' next home game is slated for March 1 when Sacramento State visits campus.
La Rue Field has not been a friendly environment to the Cardinal in recent seasons since the Aggies have won three of the last four head-to-head home games. Games in Palo Alto have been just as competitive with UC Davis dropping its last two road games by a one-run margin.
The day after they face the Cardinal, the Aggies will head to Palm Springs to compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Beginning with Friday's 10 a.m. contest vs. Kentucky, UC Davis will compete in five games throughout its stay in the desert before returning home.
Softball's inaugural day of action will end against Liberty; its weekend will continue on Saturday vs. two Power Five opponents in Illinois (9 a.m.) and UCLA (3 p.m.). The Aggies will wrap-up their weekend with a 10 a.m. Sunday morning matchup with Utah Valley.
In its third game of the 2017 season, UC Davis will compete against Kentucky - its first opponent that competed in last year's postseason. The Wildcats finished the SEC Softball Tournament with a 43-12 record, which helped them host the Lexington Regional. UK advanced to the Regional's final, and handed Utah its first loss of the weekend before being eliminated by the Utes later that day.
Other postseason opponents that will square off against the Aggies in Palm Springs are Illinois and UCLA.
Also competing at Kentucky's regional in 2016 was the Fighting Illini, UC Davis' first opponent of Saturday's tournament doubleheader. After opening its playoff run with a 1-0 loss to Utah, Illinois bounced back to defeat Butler before being eliminated by the Wildcats the following day.
The Aggies' second day at the MNCC will conclude against UCLA at 3 p.m. Last year, the Bruins finished second in the Pac-12, but won twice at the Eugene Super Regional against the regular-season conference champions to punch their ticket to the Women's College World Series for the 26th time in program history.
Of its five games against Pac-12 opposition, a league that saw eight of its nine teams earning playoff berths last season, UC Davis will compete in two this week. In addition to its March 8 return game at Stanford, the team will face Oregon State on March 3, at the San Diego Classic I and host California (the final non-conference game of the regular season) on April 26.
