SAN FRANCISCO -- Senior James Wade advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket before his run in San Francisco came to end on Saturday afternoon , as the UC Davis tandem of Wade and classmate Alec Adamson were eliminated at the eighth-annual Battle in the Bay Classic at the California Tennis Club.
Wade opened the day with a straight set win over Pacific's Kumara Adavelly, 6-4, 6-4, before his was stopped one round later by Cal Poly's Corey Pang, 7-5, 6-2. Meanwhile, in the main draw, third-seeded Alec Adamson was upset by UC Santa Barbara's Morgan Mays in a three-set marathon, as the Gaucho rallied from a 6-4 loss in the opening set to post set wins of 6-4 and 6-3 to claim the match.
Following an opening round win on Friday, Adamson and Wade had their run through the doubles main draw stymied by the second-seeded duo of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith of USC, 8-4.
The Aggies now break until next weekend when UC Davis hosts the annual Aggie Invitational at the Marya Welch Tennis Center on campus from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. While his teammates battle it out at home, Adamson will take to the skies and head to Tulsa, Okla., for the 2016 ITA All-American Championships beginning on Oct. 1.
