SAN FRANCISCO -- Third-seeded UC Davis senior Alec Adamson advanced to the round of 16 in singles, before joining forces with teammate James Wade to move on in the doubles main draw, rounding out day one of the men's competition at the eighth-annual Battle in the Bay Classic at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco.
Following a first-round bye, Adamson eased past California's Dominic Barretto in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, setting up a round of 16 match-up against either Morgan Mays of UC Santa Barbara or San Diego State's Sander Gjoels-Anderson on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 24) at 1 p.m.
Wade fell to Portland's Mathieu Garcia, 6-3, 6-4 in his first round contest, before defeating Boise State's Morgan Stone, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9), in the second round of the consolation bracket. Wade will take on Pacific's Kumara Adavelly in the consolation third round at 12:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, the duo teamed up to post an 8-4 win over Pepperdine's Gabriel Sidney and Jack Van Slyke in the round of 32, setting up a meeting against the tournament's No. 2-seeded duo of Brandon Holt and Riley Smith of USC on Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m.
