DAVIS, Calif. - Even though the women's tennis team will kick-off its 2016 fall schedule in Berkeley next week at the Cal Nike Fall Invitational, the season will start one week early for Lani-Rae Green and Kristy Jorgensen since the pair will compete at this weekend's Battle in the Bay Classic.

Singles competition will start Thursday afternoon with doubles matches beginning the following morning. Action will continue for both the men and women on Saturday and conclude on Sunday with a slate of championship matches.

Top teams from the region, state and nation will travel to the California Tennis Club, from Sept. 22-25 to participate in the eighth-annual event, hosted by San Francisco. What started as a men's-only tournament expanded last season to include women's teams; Green and Jorgensen are the first Aggies in program history to compete in this tournament.

Other schools that are represented this weekend include Arizona, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, San Francisco and Pacific.

Green will open the tournament against San Francisco's Shanna Dos Santos at 4 p.m.; the winner of that matchup will take on the winner of another Round of 16 match featuring the main draw's top seed, Arizona's Lauren Marker, and Pacific's Yuka Asami.

On the opposide end of the singles bracket, Jorgensen will face No. 2-seeded Paris Corley (Arizona) in her inaugural contest of the weekend.

Green and Jorgensen drew Dos Santos-Anna Sokiran as their doubles quarterfinal opponent, that match will begin Friday morning at 9:45 a.m.
