LOS ANGELES -- The UC Davis men's soccer team unleashed a barrage of 20 shots upon the Loyola Marymount defense to set a new season standard, but could not dent the back of the net on Sunday evening as a pair of first-half goals lifted the host Lions to a 2-0 win over the Aggies at Sullivan Field.

The loss dropped UC Davis to 1-2-2 overall on the season, as the Aggies left Southern California with their highest single-match shot total since they put up 22 attempts against CSUN on Oct. 8, 2015, and their highest road total since a 26-shot effort at Sacramento State on Oct. 25, 2014.

LMU, which managed just nine shots for the match, but put seven of those on frame, evened its record at 3-3 for the year.

Sophomore Kristian Heptner came off the bench to lead the Aggies with a match-high five shots -- pacing the squad in that category for the fourth straight contest. Nine different UC Davis players finished with at least one attempt on the day, seven of those with multiple shots, but only Heptner, Steven Guzman, Roy Boateng, and Miguel Acevedo, were able to put one on frame as Lions' keeper Collin Partee stopped all four in the shutout.

Loyola Marymount wasted no time in getting on the board, needing just 62 seconds to find the back of the net for the first time. Passes by Mark Dotseth and Jose Ochoa allowed Sahid Conteh to break free from the Aggies' defense, and he buried a shot to the top right corner for his first goal of the year and a 1-0 lead.

Lucky Puengrod then made it a two-goal match in the 31st minute, finding himself one-on-one with the UC Davis goalkeeper, and finishing to the right side for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 advantage.

After the break, the Aggies' offense took five of the first six shots of the second half, and finished the night with the final six shots of the match, but was unable to mount a rally.

UC Davis closes out a run of five-straight matches away from home on Thursday (Sept. 15), traveling to CSU Bakersfield for a 7 p.m. kick-off. The Aggies then return to the friendly confines of their home field to kick-off a three-match homestand on Sunday (Sept. 18) at 3 p.m., welcoming Portland to the Aggie Soccer Field.
