DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis will compete in three fall tournaments, within a four-week timespan, as announced by head coach Bill Maze on Tuesday. The Aggies will compete in the Cal Nike Fall Invitational, Saint Mary's Invitational and ITA Northwest Regional Championships.
Women's tennis will open its 2016-17 campaign with a three-day event in Berkeley, starting on Sept. 30, at the Cal Nike Fall Invitational. In last year's tournament, numerous titles were captured by the Aggies when former senior Alex Huie, current players Kristy Jorgensen, Jessie Lee and Lani-Rae Green won their consolation doubles bracket while in Berkeley.
Lee and Green defeated teammates Isabella von Ebbe and Samantha Martino, another two players who return for Coach Maze this season, in the championship match.
In the final day of action at Cal, Lee won a singles championship by topping Nevada's Blaga Delic - her flight's third-ranked player.
UC Davis will head to Moraga the following weekend (Oct. 7-9) to compete in the Saint Mary's Invitational. When the Aggies visited SMC last season, Isabella von Ebbe won a main draw singles championship by defeating Gonzaga's Sissi Koehler in three sets.
The final fall tournament for women's tennis will take place at Stanford when 19 teams descend to Palo Alto to participate in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships. This five-day tournament will run from Oct. 21-25.
In addition to the Aggies, other regional teams competing in this event include: Stanford, the tournament's host, California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Portland State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San José State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Washington and Washington State.
