2015-16 All-Big West Conference Teams

DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis junior Alec Adamson was named the 2016 Big West Conference men's tennis player of the year on Wednesday morning, highlighting a list of six Aggies named to the All-Big West teams as voted on by the coaches and announced by the league office.

Along with Adamson, junior James Wade was named to the all-conference second team in singles, while classmate Bryce McKelvie earned honorable mention laurels in singles. Senior Adam Levie, who earned first-team honors with Adamson in doubles, joined the tandem of senior Brett Bacharach and junior Eli Whittle, who were also honored on the All-Big West doubles second team.

"We are definitely excited for the honors for our players," Head Coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "They all work hard to represent UC Davis in the most positive way possible. For Alec to be named player of the year is a result of all that hard work and I know our whole team couldn't be happier."

Adamson is the first UC Davis recipient of the league's player of the year honor, while also earning a spot on the all-conference first team in both singles and doubles for the second time in his career. The junior, who this season became the first Aggie to earn a national ranking in singles at the Division I level, finished the year 20-14 overall and 11-9 in dual match play at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the UC Davis lineup.

Opening the spring ranked No. 38 in the nation, Adamson has been listed among the country's top singles players for the majority of the season, facing six nationally ranked opponents at the time of the match and posting wins over San Diego's Uros Petronljevic and California's Florian Lakat -- both ranked No. 30 in the nation at the time.

After opening the spring 0-6, Adamson rebounded to win seven straight and 11 of his next 12. He led the Aggies with 15 matches that went three sets, finishing with wins in nine of those contests.

In doubles, Adamson and teammate Levie finished 13-9 overall and were 12-8 as UC Davis' No. 1 tandem in duals. Levie, who was also 8-3 overall and 3-0 in singles duals on the year, earned his third career All-Big West honor in doubles in the process.

Wade earned his third career All-Big West honor in singles after claiming first-team awards in each of his first two collegiate seasons, ending the year 20-13 overall and 14-8 in dual match play. He was a perfect 7-0 at the No. 1 spot in the Aggies' lineup and won nine-in-a-row at one point during the year, standing among a select group of five players in the conference (three of those from UC Davis) to win 20 matches on the year.

McKelvie led the Aggies with a 27-8 overall record and an 18-4 mark in dual match play at three different spots in the lineup. The junior was a perfect 5-0 at the No. 3 spot and 12-4 at No. 4, while winning his only match at No. 6 on the year, and winning 16 consecutive singles contests -- and 18 of his final 21 -- at one point during the year.

Both Wade and McKelvie have won at least 20 matches in each of their three seasons at UC Davis.

Playing the majority of the season as the Aggies' No. 2 doubles team, Bacharach and Whittle combined to finish 6-5 in dual matches and combined for 19 dual match wins overall in doubles during the year with three other partners.

UC Davis ended its 2015-16 season with a 17-7 overall record, setting a new Division I standard for victories in a single-season and posting the most wins in a quarter century since the 1991 squad finished 18-5. The Aggies reached the semifinals of the Big West Tournament for the third consecutive season, set a new Division I record with 12 consecutive dual match wins, and posted their second consecutive unbeaten record at home (10-0), running their winning streak in the latter to 19 consecutive matches.
