Aggies' roll continues with shutout of Eagles

DAVIS, Calif. -- The No. 73-ranked UC Davis men's tennis team claimed it's eight straight victory and its fourth shutout of the season, holding off Mother Nature and sweeping past visiting Eastern Washington, 7-0, on Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.

The Aggies improved to 11-3 overall on the season and extended its longest single-season winning streak since the 2001 season. UC Davis also clinched its 15th straight home victory, improving to an unblemished 6-0 on the season.

The Eagles fell to 8-10 overall with the loss.

Juniors James Wade and Bryce McKelvie, along with senior Brett Bacharach, each posted individual sweeps on the day, claiming wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday. Bacharach and Wade teamed up for a 6-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles before each claiming straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Wade won his fifth straight dual in singles competition, improving to 5-0 at the top spot in the UC Davis lineup, while Bacharach was a winner for the seventh straight match, remaining unbeaten in three chances at No. 2.

McKelvie, who teamed up with Tommy Lam at No. 3 doubles for a 6-3 victory there, then extended his winning streak in singles to 12 straight, posting a 6-3, 6-0, victory at No. 3.

Alec Adamson and Adam Levie posted a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles in their only action of the day, improving to 7-4 as a duo at the top spot, while sophomore Everett Maltby, and juniors Jesse Ross and Eli Whittle, claimed straight-set wins at Nos. 3-6 on the singles ladder.

UC Davis will return to the court later tonight, continuing play at the Golden State Invitational with a 6 p.m. start against Nevada at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River, Calif. Due to rain in the forecast for the remainder of the weekend, Sunday's schedule will be finalized and released later tonight.
